The basics of AI - Ep. 00
This is part 0 of 18, in a series "The basics of AI: A Self-Study Journey"
It would be stupid of me to think you aren’t already flooded with news about AI. If your feed is anything like mine - you see endless prompt engineers. Their posts often include 100+ prompts in a single post. I don’t blame you if you’re sick of hearing or seeing posts about AI. I know I am. Simply put, it’s overwhelming.
I should preface by saying I am no AI expert myself. I'm no machine learning expert either. I am a knowledge seeker with a deep need to understand the world. I self-study subjects I find interesting. I haven’t studied either topic anywhere except online. I’m currently studying Elements of AI, a public online course that after completion can be validated by Linköping University.
Background
My background is in project management. I studied IT-Project Management at Jensen Yrkeshögskola, which during my time focused on project management within system development, e-commerce, and web & mobile projects. I've been CEO of Hyperlab, a web & e-commerce agency. I’ve been surrounded by tech-savvy coders whose fascination and love (or sometimes despise) of AI caught me. I am not crediting myself as someone who's studied AI, or machine learning or knows anything more than what you can find on the web yourself.
My sole aim with this series is to:
Document my continuous learning and understanding of AI.
Be able to explain AI, simply and clearly without jargon.
Complete the Elements of AI course and eventually get it validated from LiU.
I will not:
Claim to be a prompt engineer or an AI expert.
Share a spreadsheet with so many ‘top tips’ that your brain will break.
Use AI to write my posts, for research yes - but no different than how one would use Google 2 years ago.
AI will affect everyone eventually, hopefully in a good way. But if we don’t truly understand what it is - how can we know what potential implications it’ll have on our society? My personal belief is that AI literacy is useful regardless of what you do. I think everyone has a responsibility to educate themselves to understand AI. You don't need to be a maths genius or even know how to code - only your curiosity is the limit.
Superintelligent AI is a challenge we need to take seriously, because its arrival could be the best or worst thing ever to happen to humanity.
Max Tegmark
That’s amazing! I’m also on a self-study journey to become more technical, looking forward to seeing your progress!!
Wish you success in explaining AI knowledge clearly and concisely!
